Abstract

By studying the relaxation of the resistance of TaS3 before and after depinning of the chargedensity wave, we have investigated the metastability of the repinned state. We determine the flow pattern around the repinned state and deduce the structure around the true equilibrium state. The existence of two distinct routes to equilibrium and a selection rule is demonstrated.
