Abstract
We review some recent development in the matrix approach to M-theory. In particular, we explain the unifying role of the M5 brane for describing the spectrum of the T5 compactification of M-theory, and highlight the appearance of IIA strings and their interactions. We also describe some properties of the 5+1-dimensional micro-string theory that lives of the 5-brane world-volume.
