Abstract
VS3, a transition metal trichalcogenide that has not been previously reported, was successfully prepared by a high-pressure solid-state synthesis method. Its low-dimensional crystal structure, refined by Rietveld PXRD and confirmed by HR-STEM, features both uncommon V–S coordination polyhedra and S–S dimers. Preliminary characterization reveals low-moment paramagnetic behavior and a semiconducting nature.
