Limitations in using luminosity distance to determine the equation of state of the universe

Abstract

A supernova search extended to greater z can make a precise determination of the luminosity distance as a function of redshift. The present work shows that this does not enable a precise determination of the equation of state of the dark energy component and its time variation.
