Abstract

The reactions of fuels with electronically excited oxygen atom O(1 D) generated from ul-traviolet photolysis of ozone were studied in a Herriott cell. Intermediate species such as the hydroperoxyl radical (HO2) and the hydroxyl radical (OH) formation were quantified in-situ using Faraday rotation spectroscopy and direct absorption spectroscopy, respectively. Branching ratios of O(1 D) reactions with fuels in plasma assisted combustion (methanol, ethanol and acetylene) were determined based on fittings to the experimental time-dependent concentration retrievals.
