Abstract

The effects of yttrium on the growth rate and the adherence of alumina and chromia scales on alloys were studied and detailed oxide scale characterization was performed. A critical assessment of the proposed mechanisms by which yttrium influences the oxide scale behavior is made and additional mechanisms are suggested.
