Abstract

Matter is the first state. Matter is the elementary beginning of all making. Raw and unfettered, it awaits use and enlistment for interpretation. Material logics, when met with tools, inherit limitations and dialogues. Physical constraints, in combination with systems of connection, determine their collective capabilities. Matter operates within the historical legacies of thinking and making emergent from their cultures, regional craft, and evolutionary technologies. Their capabilities derive from a specific place and time. The collective creates a language of expression and communication. Lineament is the second state. Lineament is the constructed delineations of representation. Lineament is the media where idea is manifest through drawing. Through lineament, material is articulated as an extension of itself, where representation manifests idea. The drawing and the material come together through the process of rational making. Assembly is the third state.
