Abstract

Nd1.5Ce0.5Sr2Cu2NbO10-δ has been studied with high resolution electron microscopy and electron diffraction. The structure consists of a block of layers CuO2SrONbO2SrOCuO2 having a perovskite-like structure sandwiched with a (Nd,Ce)O2(Nd,Ce) block which has a fluorite-like stacking. A ap√2, ap√2, c superstructure (space group Acam) occurs due to rotation of the NbO6 octahedra about the c-axis. The supercell ordering along the c-axis is very short range resulting in strongly streaked superreflections along c*.
