N2 - In the study of dynamic, large-scale, complex networks, coarse-grained (reduced, low-dimensional) descriptions of the network can be useful not only in identifying significant network features, but also in enabling reduced, systems-level analysis of the evolution dynamics. Obtaining such a coarse-grained description for networks is a challenging problem. Additionally, the implementation of coarse-grained computational algorithms requires a systematic approach for translating low-dimensional network features to full-scale network realizations. We discuss recent advances, and experience with applications, in both these directions for complex network evolution.
