Granular drag on a discrete object: Shape effects on jamming

Abstract

The drag force experienced by discrete objects moving through static dense granular media was studied. It was found that there is an unexpected nonlinear component to the drag that depends on the geometry of dragged object. Basic geometrical factors contributing to the drag process were identified.
