Abstract

A study on generation of ultrahigh intensity laser pulses was presented. It was found that plasma could be irradiated using long pump laser pulse carrying significant energy, which was depleted in the plasma by a short counterpropagating pulse. The counterpropagating wave effect was employed in Raman amplifiers using gases or plasma at low laser power.
