Abstract

THE TITLE of my paper,“ Gender Impersonation Onstage: Destroying or Maintaining the Mirror of Gender Roles,” seems a way into the more loaded question that names this panel. Are gender perspectives in criticism for women only? Without offering my unequivocal opinion upfront, my hope is to explain my own view of gender perspectives, and by way of specific examples, evaluate the work both men and women, and lesbians and gay men, have attempted around the topic.
