Abstract

This article is an exposition of a recent remarkable discovery in the theory of dynamical systems-the so-called Feigenbaum universality. This discovery lies on the boundary of mathematics and physics: the statement of the problem comes, in essence, from mathematics, while the method of approach to its solution is taken from physics and is based on the well known renormalization-group method in theoretical physics, first used in statistical mechanics and quantum field theory.
