Abstract
A report on far-infrared and ultra-high-speed quantum-cascade (QC) lasers is presented. Operation of a surface plasmon QC laser at long wavelengths, beyond the range of state-of-the-art mid-IR QC lasers, needs a major redesign of the active region. Calculations of the fundamental mode of a dielectric and a metal-semiconductor QC laser waveguide were also provided.
