Abstract

Ceramic processing methods have been used to prepare high Tc superconductors in both the La2‐xSrxCuO4‐δ system and the Ba2YCu3O9‐δ system. Large powder batches of both have been prepared and subsequently fabricated by dry pressing of powders and by casting thin sheets (50–200 μm) of a powder‐polymer composite. When sintered both materials made by both methods are superconducting. For the Ba2YCu3O9‐δ composition it is demonstrated that both the bulk sintered samples and the thin sintered sheets are similar in resistivity, magnetic susceptibility, chemical composition, phase composition and microstructure. These bulk materials show superconductivity above 90K and are used in demonstrations of magnetic levitation. 1987 The American Ceramic Society
