Abstract

High impurity confinement in WPQH mode is a direct consequence of unfavorable neoclassical impurity transport in the edge transport barrier. The turbulent and MHD transport regulating the pedestal pressure gradient does not significantly increase the transport of metals, and without ELMs, ECH alone cannot remove W from the plasma.
