Abstract

The phenomenon of spontaeous polarization in cesium vapor was studied under a broad range of experimental conditions. The spontaneous growth of spin polarization into either of the two stable spin directions, parallel or anti-parallel to the magnetic field, was observed. Furthermore, hysteresis curves of spin polarization versus the circular polarization of the pump light were measured.
