Abstract
The field profile of the in-plane thermal conductivity κ in Bi2Sr2CaCu2O8 displays a striking anomaly below 20 K. At a "kink" field Hk, the profile exhibits a sharp break in slope, followed by a plateau in which κ is field independent. The anomaly suggests a phase transition of the condensate to a state in which the quasi-particle heat current is zero. We discuss aspects of the experiment and some recent interpretations.
