Abstract

Enhanced optical Eu²⁺ fluorescence in Eu-doped CaF₂ crystals is observed following resonant absorption of Mössbauer γ-rays by Eu³⁺ nuclei. The effect is due to scintillation fluorescence from Eu²⁺ ions excited by conversion electrons from decaying 21.6 keV ¹⁵¹Eu.
