Abstract
An electrostatic probe apparatus that can be used for measurements in the near-anode region of Hall thrusters is discussed. It is found that the near-anode region in Hall thrusters is 1-2 cm long. Electron temperature, plasma density and their variations in the near-anode region are found to be smaller than in the acceleration region. The results show that the diagnostic system integrates the electronic circuitry, specific mechanical design and measurement methods for near-anode measurements.
