Abstract

This work presents the possibility of temporally-resolved electron momentum-transfer collision frequency measurements in small plasma objects via phase information from coherent microwave scattering (CMS, referring to the case of constructive elastic microwave scattering). In particular, for plasmas inhabiting the mixed collisional-Thomson scattering regime. We additionally recommend the combination of phase and amplitude measurements to derive total electron counts and temperatures. Finally, by using 10.5 GHz CMS off laser-induced, variable-pressure oxygen plasmas, this concept is experimentally validated.
