Abstract
This chapter explores the intertwining of economics and power within German national identity, analysing its impact from historical state-building to contemporary European integration and global politics. Utilising historical analysis and economic data, the study reveals how Germany's export-oriented economy and strategic economic policies have shaped both its national identity and international relations, particularly in the context of the European Union's integration and relations with Russia and China. The chapter argues that Germany's economic strategies, deeply rooted in its history, have both contributed to its leadership in European integration and exposed vulnerabilities, especially in light of recent geopolitical tensions. The findings underscore the complexities of relying on economic interdependence for geopolitical stability and the challenges of sustaining a hegemonic position within the European Union.
