Abstract

The multicomponent analog of the classical single-component d**2-Law for droplet vaporization and combustion has been formulated based on the concept that the extremely slow rate of liquid phase mass diffusion causes the droplet concentration distributions to attain almost constant values during much of the droplet lifetime. Explicit formulas are presented allowing direct evaluation of all properties of interest. Experimental results obtained for an alcohol-alkane binary droplet confirm the d**2-Law behavior and the compositional dependence of the burning rate constant. The characteristics of internal bubbling leading to disruptive combustion are also discussed.
