Abstract

Duality between uplink and downlink beamforming problems was discussed. The duality was exhibited and used to show that effective bandwidth results were obtained for the uplink and translated into effective bandwidth results for the downlink. The duality was observed in the contexts of the capacity of a point-to-point multiple transmit, multiple receive antenna channel, the degraded Gaussian broadcast channel and of a downlink of a multiple antenna system employing linear transmission strategies.
