Abstract

Vela X is a large, 3°×2°, radio-emitting pulsar wind nebula (PWN) powered by the Vela pulsar in the Vela supernova remnant. Using Suzaku/XIS observations, we find hard X-ray emission extending outside the Vela X region. The spectral and spatial properties of the hard X-ray emission suggest that it is associated with the Vela PWN. The larger X-ray extension found in this work strongly suggests that distinct populations relativistic electrons form the X-ray PWN and Vela X. We also notice diffuse hard X-ray emission in the other direction. More Suzaku/XIS observations are strongly desired to reveal the entire morphology of the Vela PWN.
