Abstract
Through an analysis of the work of Sergei Tret'jakov, this article explores documentary as the site of what his collaborator Bertolt Brecht called <kollektive Denkprozesse.> Such emergent forms of group cognition are especially prevalent at moments of acute historical crisis and transition, when individual consciousness lags behind events still unfolding in the present.
