Abstract

The long-time projective behavior of the stochastic master equation describing a continuous, collective spin measurement of an atomic ensemble was characterized both analytically and numerically. The various representations of the dynamics in both the short- and long-time limits were discussed. The probabilistic preparation of Dicke states via observation alone was described. It was shown that it is possible to prepare highly entangled Dicke states deterministically by adding state-based feedback.
