Abstract
Results of a study of phase equilibria in the SiO//2-Al//2O//3 system are given. It is generally agreed that combination of several techniques may be utilized to decipher the stable phase equilibrium of a system which is complicated by the existence of metastable conditions. The diffusion couple technique, although not widely utilized, is unique since it combines certain features of the static and dynamic techniques into a single experiment.
