Abstract

We present a novel design of compact wideband MIMO antennas using a shared patch radiator. The proposed radiator consists of a single square patch loaded by two rows of shorting pins. By etching four slots along the diagonal direction and arranging four ports in a rotational symmetry manner, the wideband operation can be realized on a single-layer substrate with decent port isolations. To validate the design scheme, a MIMO antenna module is designed to cover the 5G n79 band (4.4 ~ 5 GHz). Simulated results show that the proposed MIMO antenna module exhibits better than 12 dB port isolations across the operation band with a compact dimension of only 27 × 27 × 3 mm3, indicating its potential application in portable devices.
