Abstract

We present an experimental study of fast frequency-hopping time-spreading Optical CDMA (OCDMA) using a 4-node testbed at 253Gchips/s. Error free operation of 4 simultaneous users is obtained with an effective power penalty ≤0.5dB. We also demonstrate its capability to provide differentiated service in the physical layer, by varying the code weight. The novel control of a reconfigurable delay line enables variation of the code weight, and hence service guarantees on a per-bit-basis. Ultrafast all-optical gating was used to further reduce multiple access interference.
