Abstract
A fraction containing defective-interfering particles of Sindbis virus was isolated by equilibrium density centrifugation of Sindbis virus stocks prepared by serial, undiluted passage through BHK-21 cells. This fraction had a mean density of 1.22 g/cc and interfered with the yield of Sindbis virus to a much greater extent than with Eastern equine encephalitis virus. Interfering activity was not limited to the 1.22 g/cc region, but extended through to the 1.20 g/cc fractions of the equilibrium density gradients.
