Abstract

From the viewpoint of viewpoints, much of the work on convergent computing systems can be seen as the development of models and mechanisms for describing and controlling viewpoints. The implications of the work on name management on the emerging study of viewpoints was considered. In connection with this, the formation, manipulation and use of contexts were analyzed to determine the meanings associated with individual names at a given point in time. A strong analogy between contexts and viewpoints was observed. Some insights and experiences gained in studying name management may be relevant to work on viewpoints.
