Abstract

Recent progress that we have made on the problem of the determination effective properties of random heterogeneous media from the morphology is described. The following aspects of this problem are discussed: (i) derivation of rigorous bounds on the properties; (ii) quantitative characterization of the microstructure; (iii) derivation of rigorous cross-property relations; (iv) development of efficient simulation methods to compute diffusion properties; and (v) calculations of effective properties.
