note = "Funding Information: We We are proud to announce that the 2017 IEEE Wireless Communications and Networking Con-ference (WCNC{\textquoteright}17) is the recipient of the 2018 iCon Award. This award, sponsored by IEEE Meetings, Conferences, and Events (MCE), celebrates one conference over the more than 1800 IEEE conferences and events each year that has “demonstrated excellence in innovation, content curation, community building, and financial stability and growth.” MCE recognized WCNC{\textquoteright}17 for its “mission to incorporate diversity, the latest technologies, and both industrial and academic forums.” WCNC is the only IEEE conference that focuses exclusively on wireless communication and networks. When we decided to organize WCNC{\textquoteright}17 in San Francisco, our motivation was to showcase our beautiful city by the bay as well as the technology and innovators driving the wireless industry. We wanted to create a conference with new and compelling features of interest to both academia and industry. We also wanted diversity throughout the conference. This included a diverse organizing committee whose different perspectives would allow us to think “outside the box” as well as a diverse set of plenary speakers and panelists who would provide a rich tapestry of viewpoints to our attendees.
