Abstract
The combustion of single droplets of coal-water slurries was studied experimentally by determining the instantaneous size and mass of the droplets and theoretically modelled for the char agglomerate by allowing for the presence of the ash layer as well as the residual volatiles. Comparison of the theoretical results with and without finite-rate kinetics substantiates the hypothesis that the combustion is basically diffusion-limited.
