Abstract
With Mozart-like versatility, Charles Tilly's brilliant investigations covered a remarkable range of topics and methodologies. This paper highlights two of Tilly's lesser-known contributions: as cultural analyst and as feminist scholar. It also introduces his concern with the place of normative arguments in social research.
