Abstract

Catalytic ignition and heat release of ethylene oxidation over a Pd wire with a PdO surface layer were studied by wire microcalorimetry over the temperature range of 400-800 K under atmospheric pressure. The stable surface structure of the porous PdO layer was identified by Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) and Energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX). Ignition temperatures and heat release rates for different ethylene concentrations (0.3-0.6 vol.% in dry air diluted by nitrogen) were determined, with global kinetic parameters extracted over the temperature range of 600 to 780 K: activation energy for the catalytic reaction is 8.88 ± 0.66 kcal/mol, and the reaction order is 0.9 ± 0.1.
