Abstract
We demonstrate that the transient photoconductivity, photoluminescence, and excited-state absorption (PA) in single-crystal α-octithiophene (8T) are radically different from those in 8T-oriented polycrystalline film. These observations suggest that structural disorder in the 8T system introduces sub-band-gap energy levels that reduce the photocurrent lifetime, facilitate radiative transitions in the near-IR region, and enhance PA.
