Abstract
A Black-crowned Night Heron (Nyticorax nyticorax) was observed manipulating bread to catch fish attracted to the bait. This is the second recorded instance of a Black-crowned Night Heron fishing with bait. Bait-fishing has also been observed in the Green Heron (Bulorides virescens) and the closely-related Striated Heron (Butorides striatus); a related foraging technique has been reported in the Great Egret (Ardea alba) and the Great Blue Heron (Ardea herodias).
