Abstract

Achieving high enantioselectivity in radical reactions has been a long-standing challenge in synthetic organic chemistry. Given the ubiquity of HAT events in radical reactions, strategies for achieving asymmetric HAT have significant synthetic potential as manifested by the recent surge of reports involving enantioselective HAT. In this Perspective, we document developments in both asymmetric H atom donation (HAD) to prochiral C-centered radicals and asymmetric H atom abstraction (HAA) from enantiotopic C–H bonds. Additionally, we highlight advancements in established strategies and emergent tactics, particularly within the past decade. Finally, we identify potential areas of exploration within the rapidly evolving realm of asymmetric HAT.
