Abstract

The assembly of colloidal aggregates by electrohydrodynamic (EHD) flow was analyzed. The scaling expression for the EHD fluid velocity engendered by the dipole field of a polarized particle were derived. The action of the applied electric field, which generated the fluid motion that carried particles toward one another was also analyzed. It was observed that the direction of the flow depended on the sign of the dipole coefficient. the velocity was found to be proportional to the square of the applied potential and inversely proportional to the frequency.
