Anharmonic oscillator model for dispersive optical bistability

Abstract

A quartic anharmonic oscillator coupled to an e.m. field is shown to describe dispersive optical bistability occurring only away from the resonance. The stationary states and the linearized time evolution are analysed in the mean field approximation.
