Abstract

Flow visualization patterns interpreted with the aid of critical point theory are shown to lead to a better understanding of bluff body wakes. When the bluff body is fitted with a long splitter plate, it is revealed that near reattachment eddies are not 'split' but deflected alternately upstream and downstream. (A)
