Abstract

The 2D plasma contraction was studied in a DC gas discharge with a detailed kinetic scheme. A set of time-dependent species and energy equations was formulated and then solved numerically. The results showed that a strong spatial gradient of temperatures and species number densities were formed following the plasma thermal-chemical mechanism. A detailed characterization of the instability dynamics may contribute to the future development of the non-equilibrium plasma aerospace applications.
